Johnny's Wedding Day

(Peter Lavender)
December, 2006
Sitting on the stairs of the chapel
Watching the sun start to set
I saw you turning the corner
A memory I won’t soon forget
You were looking like always imagined
Each night when I go to bed
And all the things that I never told you
Were rolling around in my head

Your arm and mine locked together
The first time in such a long while
And I felt myself shaking all over
As I ushered you down the aisle.
Johnny was looking so happy
Amy was looking herself
And I couldn’t stop looking at you
Though I knew you could probably tell

Felt like we were both back in high school
When you asked if I wanted to dance
And the song that the band was playing
Wasn’t merely playing by chance.
You rested your head on my shoulder
Tightened your hand around mine
And it fellt like the whole room was watching
Like they knew we were crossing the line.

Johnny has long since remarried
Amy’s a nurse in LA
And I’m teaching myself the piano
When the memories don’t get in the way
Cause I still feel your head on my shoulder
Still hear them playing our song
Still feel you pulling me closer
And I still hear us singing along.
